When Scarpetta examines a young man's body, she discovers stunning indications that he may have been alive when he was zipped inside a pouch and locked inside the cooler of her new Cambridge Forensic Center in Massachusetts. Various 3-D radiology scans reveal more shocking details about internal injuries unlike any Scarpetta has ever seen. These suggest the possibility of a conspiracy to cause mass casualties, and she races against time to discover who and why before more people die.

too long, complicated story line. Didn't like the reader.

This was a big downer to listen to. Kay Scarpetta does nothing but whine and bitch and complain about her overly paranoid life.
I loved all previous books and am soooo disappointed with this one. I'll never read another Patricia Cornwell.

As has become the norm for this cast of characters, they are all so self indulgent in their egos that they tip toe around HIPPA laws and patient priveleges in order to justify playing head games with each other. Benton or Lucy or Scarpetta always know something that could put the life of one of the others and several random people in mortal danger, but won't speak 10 words or one sentence to prevent chaos. Needless to say, this causes a great portion of the text to not be so much intrique about any new plots, but hostile feelings and twisted loyalties to each other making them all appear to be in total oblivion to what normal people would do in the same circumstances. For some reason, I am loyal to this series, and curious about what comes next...but not so invested as to buy the books anymore. I wait for the library.
